Did you know that if every one of the 7.5 billion people on earth checked the weather each morning, it would mean on average 90,000 requests for weather information per second?

Imagine trying to serve data to weather data to millions of people as a hurricane approaches a major city or a snow storm impacts the east coast of the U.S.

Historically, these services are provided by government agencies such as the The National Weather Service and most recently weather data has been made available globally by private companies such as AccuWeather and Wunderground. Some of these companies use proprietary data sources such as atmospheric pressure taken from your cell phone.

As the climate changes and global weather forecasting evolves, what if we also reinvented how the data itself is collected, while keeping the data open and accessible to everyone on earth?

Kanda Weather has developed a solar-powered Weather “Miner” that rewards individuals with Telos for hosting a small weather station in their backyard or small business. The rewards begin at $0.25 and increase greatly when the smart contract flags the data as being high-quality and consistent with the data hosted by other crowdsourced sensors around it.
